From the Pastor's Desk
"(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ" (2 Corinthians 10:4-5). What a wonderful verse! We need to be reminded that we are all in the midst of a great spiritual battle. And we cannot confront the enemy of our souls using the weapons of this world. They simply will not work. The weapons at our disposal are spiritual, and they are mighty because our God is the power that stands behind them. For example, we can come against the enemy in the power of faith. The apostle John wrote, "This is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith" (1 John 5:4). We can also come against the enemy with love. Remember the words of Paul: "Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good." (Romans 12:21).
But, I believe our greatest battles are fought in the arena of our minds. If the enemy can mess up our thinking, he knows he will greatly hinder our effectiveness. Romans 12:2 says, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." Paul tells us that we are to "bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ." The devil brings many thoughts into our minds and of course, our own sinful natures also produce many evil thoughts. These thoughts are ungodly, contrary to the will and purpose of God. They tear us, and those around us, down. We must recognize them for what they really are, and then bring them into captivity. We must capture them and make them obedient to Christ. It's a challenge, but God is able and willing to help us so that we will be able to walk in the power of His Spirit.
