FLAGRANTE SEDUCTO
Flashman has been caught in flagrante
seducto (with his pants down) several times.
And most of the time, it has led to dangerous adventures:
- Lady Geraldine (1836), Flashman's earliest recorded lesson on natural history (age 14). Fled with
his breeches over his face to avoid being recognized.
- Josette (1839), which
led to the Bernier Duel and his subsequent assignment
in Scotland and adventures in India.
- Elspeth (1839), which led to his marriage under threat of bodily harm. Technically
Flashman did not get caught with his pants down, but Elspeth told her parents which was just as bad.
- Mrs. Leo Lade (1843), which led to Don Solomon kidnapping his wife
Elspeth and his subsequent adventures in Borneo and Madagascar.
- Baroness Pechman (1847), which was a trap to force Flashman to
impersonate Prince Carl Gustaf and led to his subsequent adventures in the Duchy of Strackenz.
- Mrs. Annette Mandeville (1848-9), which led to his being shackled and
sent to a plantation as a slave.
- Lakshmibai, Maharani of Jhansi (1857), fled naked from the attack of two thugee
assassins and was rescued by his blood brother Ilderim.
- Fanny Paget (unknown), caused him to dive under the sofa (trouserless)
when Cardigan knocked on the door. Flashman found himself
lying next to a private detective (who was also hiding under the sofa).
- Lady Plunkett (1858), caused Flashman to change his travel plans and leave the next day for Cape Town
where he meet Captain Spring which led to the Harper's Ferry incident. Technically, Flashman
was not caught with his pants down. However, he was fondling Lady Plunkett
when in walks her husband. Flashy escaped by pretending to
be a doctor.
This should be a lesson to the wise. Be sure to lock the
door!
